Research
Research is an integral component of the Division of Urology at the University of Cincinnati. The research mission of the Division of Urology is to advance medical knowledge in the treatment of urologic diseases and to provide outstanding research and scientific training for urology residents and medical students.
Faculty and staff in the Division of Urology conduct numerous government and industry sponsored clinical trials investigating the safety and efficacy of new medications and treatment therapies for urologic diseases including renal (kidney) cancer, prostate cancer, and bladder cancer. Several long-term clinical trials are underway in the Division of Urology studying the use of medications as well as vitamin E and selenium in the prevention of prostate cancer.
The Division of Urology is working in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Health at the University of Cincinnati on the Department of Defense sponsored research, Development of a New Protocol for Prostate Cancer Detection to identify genetic markers to be used in the early detection of prostate cancer.
State-of-the-art research is being conducted in innovative minimally invasive techniques in urologic surgery with the goal of further improving the safety, speed, and precision of these technologies to improve the quality of patient care.
