James F. Donovan, Jr.

James F. Donovan, Jr., M.D., Professor of Surgery and Chief, Division of Urology, University of Cincinnati Department of Surgery. He has been recognized nationally including Best Doctors in America (Urology) and locally (Top Doctors, Cincinnati Magazine).

Dr. Donovan specializes in:

  • Minimally invasive surgery of the urologic patient, including robotic technology
  • Urological oncology
  • Stone disease
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Pelvic floor disease and urodynamics

Dr. Donovan sees patients at UC Physicians Medical Arts Building in Clifton, and UC Physicians at University Pointe in West Chester.

Dr. Donovan received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder and his M.D. degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He served his internship and residency in general surgery and urology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, as well as at Evanston Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hospital, and VA Lakeside Hospital. He completed advanced training in male infertility at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Donovan is certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and in Urologic surgery by the American Board of Urology.

Dr. Donovan is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of national and international organizations including the American Urological Association, the Urologic Society for Transplantation and Vascular Surgery, the American Lithotripsy Society, the Society for Minimally Invasive Therapy, Societe Internationale Urologie, among others. He has served as an associate editor for the textbooks Laparoscopic Urology and Laparoscopic Urologic Surgery, and is an ad hoc editor for the Journal of Urology, Investigative Urology, Fertility Sterility, and the Journal of Endourology. Dr. Donovan has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and is the author of 30 book chapters.
